How to care for your pottery

Due to the delicate nature of the work I create, I would suggest hand washing your pieces to keep them safe and happy for years to come!

Is it dishwasher/microwave safe?

I do not recommend putting my pieces in a dishwasher. Though I personally have, it runs the risk of cracks forming due to thermal shock. Sometimes it’s not apparent until you fill the vessel next….so, better safe than sorry!

Black, speckled and lustre accented work are not microwave safe. The metals in the clay body/decoration does not play well with Chef Mike! White porcelain can be microwaved, but I would not encourage it (I don’t even own a microwave!)

What’s with the gold?

I use a 22kt gold lustre that sits around 8% suspension in 2oz. I apply the gold as a final step on the finished piece of pottery. It then goes back into the kiln at a low-ish temp, just hot enough that the first few molecules of glaze soften and the metal sinks in.

The gold is 100% food safe and permanent

Custom work / orders

Where I work in small scale runs, I am always happy to customize a single piece for you. Unfortunately, it does take a bit of turnaround time, ranging from 10-30 days (depending on the time of year) and while I do not require prepayment, a deposit is suggested to ensure speedy delivery!

Bulk orders can usually be made with a shorter turnaround time, depending on number of pieces and level of detail!
